Quite a good result for both #LabourParty and #GreenParty, #ConsParty will be pleased to have come 3rd and saved their deposit, #ReformUK held their deposit and came 4th, #LibDems evidently got squeezed and lost their deposit, very bad result for GG who was a long way short of holding his deposit.

#ConsParty, #ReformUK , #RestoreGB and #LibDems.

I suppose GG is just looking to get his name in news, did he hope to be in with a chance? Doesn't seem that way, maybe 3rd, it's speculated he might split #GPEW vote, but he probably splits #LabourParty & RUK vote as well.

At #GE2015 I rather expected #ConDemCoalition to continue until 2020, but of course #ConsParty got a majority and #LibDem vote collapsed, I think #DavidCameron wanted Coalition to continue, he was politically closer to #NickClegg and #DannyAlexander than to people such as #JacobReesMogg.

#ConservativeNationals had a majority from #GE1918 even though it was still a coalition, continued until #GE1922 when they broke into party lines, #LiberalParty reunited & #ConsParty won.

#JRClynes who had been a coupon candidate wasn't opposed by #LabourParty and became party leader for a bit.

#LabourParty, #IrishNationalists & #LiberalParty (which split) left govt in 1915, #DavidLloydGeorge formed #LiberalNationals and was #PM. Some #ConsParty MPs sat in opposition, #JRClynes remained a govt minister.

Was #CouponElection at #GE1918 with mostly #ConservativeNationals & #LiberalNationals.

#GE1923 & #GE1929 both resulted in #LibLabPact, #GE2010 by #ConDemCoalition #GE2017 followed by #ConsParty pact with #DUP.

Informal coalition of #Liberals, #LabourParty & #IrishNationalists emerged in 1911, #ConsParty entered gov in 1914, in 1915 #HerbertAsquith was replaced by #DavidLloydGeorge.

Could be #MinorityGovt without any pacts, as happened after the two 1910 elections and #GEFeb1974. Has to be said that the #GrandCoalition of #LabourParty & #ConsParty would be unlikely, not impossible though.

I think Labour will probably get some kind of majority, maybe similar result to #GE2005.

There was a slow drift of #nationalisation under #ConsParty, then #LizTruss broke loose before crashing and burning, then there was #RishiSunak, they had solid majority for just over 4.5 years, Coalition was only for 5 years out of 14 years 2 months.

@michaelkearsley.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 3:10 PM

It was a sort of #NationalLiberalGovernment, #ConsParty got a majority and on most things chose to continue policies, there were some changes, #TheresaMay on many policies actually went more mainstream, but mostly continued policies.

#BoJo on #economicpolicy went somewhat more #Heathite!

#KemiBadenoch talking about compromises #ConsParty were forced into during #ConDemCoalition, fact is that that went on until 2015 and actually #DavidCameron/ #GeorgeOsborne and #NickClegg/ #VinceCable/ #DannyAlexander agreed or had very similar positions on a lot of things.

@michaelkearsley.bsky.socialOct 4, 2026, 1:30 PM

#ConsParty talking again about raising threshold of or abolishing #InheritanceTax again, #GeorgeOsborne & #DavidCameron both announced plans to raise threshold to £1m or abolish it, last time the threshold was raised was on 06/04/2009 by #ChancelloroftheExchequer #AlistairDarling, #PM #GordonBrown.

#RobertJenrick condemning #ConsParty for it's #criminaljustice, #immigration, #Treasury policies, oddly enough over the time he was in those portfolios in the very same party.

He started the year as #ShadowLordChancellor, guess who was a frontbencher when Cons were in government.

@michaelkearsley.bsky.socialSep 22, 2026, 2:40 PM

Has to be said for all #EdDavey and #NigelFarage's talk, #ConsParty is still #OfficialOpposition, still has clear lead in votes over #LibDems, if anything is starting to restore it's support relatively to #ReformUK and next GE looks primarily again mainly battle between #LabourParty and Cons Party.

@michaelkearsley.bsky.socialSep 13, 2026, 4:55 PM

It's a safe Labour seat, it's only one seat as well, an early General Election is a bad idea, he shouldn't have an election before June 2028.

If #ReformUK vote collapses, that could easily propel #ConsParty to a landslide, he needs to get on with governing.
