Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BlueSkies - any bird against a blue sky. Behold, the majestic #CommonSwift! The last time I saw one was a mixed flock with Pallid Swift, so identifying was basically impossible. This location, only the Common is around, so an easier ID!

Honoured that my pastel drawing of orphaned swifts will be on display in the Society of Wildlife Artists show from this week at the Mall Galleries in London. 🌱

Please check out the show if in/around London between 1st - 10th October!

Pastel drawing of four orphaned common swifts tucked into a crochet nest. There is one bird in the middle facing left with its long sickle-shaped wings crossed behind it. Another is perched on the top of the nest with its tiny feet. and Two others are tucked under the central bird, with long wings sticking out. The birds are primarily drawn in oranges and pinks while the nest is blue. Overlaid on the drawing is the logo of the Society of Wildlife Artists logo, the Mall Galleries logo, 'The Natural Eye', and the dates/times of the show: 1 to 10 October 2026 10am - 5pm daily.

In the words of Sabrina Carpenter, Please Please Please sign our petition to get justice for the Dorking Swifts, who had their nest sites demolished. We must put pressure on the companies trying to wriggle out of accountability. #dorkingswifts #CommonSwift #petition #ProtectTheWild

A thermal scope is pretty useful when checking a swift box late in the season! Then you know it's worth hanging around to catch a glimpse!
