In 2023, an unusual outbreak of soybean root rot (SRR) was observed in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China. Jing Zhang et al. report the first known report of SRR caused by #Colletotrichum sojae in China: https://doi.org/10.1094/PDIS-06-25-1180-RE

Jonathan Henson et al. surveyed nine orchards in the Georgia apple-growing region in 2023 to identify the #Colletotrichum species responsible for #Glomerella leaf spot and bitter rot and to assess their resistance to quinone outside inhibitor fungicides: https://doi.org/10.1094/PHYTO-01-26-0028-R

Fig. 4. Map of the Georgia apple-growing region showing Colletotrichum species associated with bitter rot and Glomerella leaf spot (GLS). Pie charts indicate the relative frequency of each species at each orchard location, with size proportional to the number of isolates. Isolates were collected from commercial orchards (A to H) and the Georgia Mountain Research and Education Center (GMREC). GLS samples include those collected from both leaves and fruit (1- to 4-mm spots).

Multi-year studies from Phillip S. Wharton et al. suggest that effective management of black dot—caused by #Colletotrichum coccodes—in susceptible cultivars relies on integrating early fungicide applications with careful crop-duration planning: https://doi.org/10.1094/PHP-10-25-0245-RS

FIGURE 1 Pre-skin set potato tuber 7 days after inoculation with a conidial suspension of Colletotrichum coccodes. A 300-µl aliquot of the suspension was applied to a sterile 10-mm-diameter filter paper disc placed on the tuber surface. Black mycelial growth radiated outward from the inoculation site and expanded around the tuber, forming a circumferential ring.

Severe anthracnose symptoms were observed on blackberry leaves in Michoacan, Mexico. J. Nava-Delgado et al. identified #Colletotrichum karstii as the causal agent. This is the first report of the pathogen causing leaf anthracnose in blackberry in Mexico: https://doi.org/10.1094/PHP-12-25-0272-BR

FIGURE 1 Blackberry leaf anthracnose symptoms caused by Colletotrichum karstii. A, Initial purple lesions on the leaves. B, Anthracnose symptoms with the presence of a purple halo surrounding the spots. C, Severely affected leaves showing yellowing and necrosis.
