Before blaming the server, check the network.

Route tables. NAT Gateway. Security Groups. Network ACLs.

Cloud troubleshooting starts with understanding the traffic path.

CIDR notation used to make my brain short-circuit: 10.0.0.0/24, cool, what do you want from me? Turns out it's just an address (the neighborhood) plus a slash (how big the neighborhood is). Worked through the actual math, IPv4 and IPv6 both.
