Run DMC, ‘Raising Hell’ (1986)
Straight outta the #BPHM8689 poll, tho’ not necessarily an indication of how I’ll vote today. Obviously tracks 1-4 are known quantities but let’s find out what the rest is like

Willis Alan Ramsey, s/t (1972)
This was in Uncut’s 500 Greatest 70s Albums mag supplement (you know, one of those “Special” Editions that pollute the shelves of TG Jones country-wide). But it’s from the magic year, so I’m giving it a go…
A Certain Ratio, ‘The Joy of Sextet’ (1982, remixed by The Emperor Machine 2026)
🧵1/4. A twist on #ClassicAlbumThursday, a first listen to the new version of a classic LP I know very well indeed (in fact, one fifth of my answer to the recent bsky prompt: your top 5 albums on your 18th birthday)

Madeline Bell, ‘This Is One Girl’ (1976)
Recorded for Pye hard on the heels of Madeline’s contributions to the Themes International library label, and feat. Alan Parker and other luminaries from the library scene. I totes forgot to do #ClassicAlbumThursday yesterday but this will serve.

Pascal, ‘The Sixth Ear’ (1972)
Brutalist home-recorded synth LP. Popped up on my Insta feed as part of one of those baity “5 [genre records] you must hear” posts. Up to four layers of Moog, lots of stereo panning, most tracks cut off suddenly. Unafraid to be atonal. Inspiring!
Upcoming #BPHM8689 prep made me realise I'd never listened to Soul II Soul's Club Classics Vol. 1 - so that's today's #ClassicAlbumThursday
Verdict: very smooth (complimentary), liked the flutes, prefer the single version of Back To Life (although the vocals are great). Will listen again.

Various Artists, ‘Quando o Carnaval Chegar: trilha sonora original do filme’ (1972)
OST to a musical comedy film, mostly scored by and starring Chico Buarque and also featuring MPB4 (performing “Partido alto”), Nara Leão and Maria Bethania. A strong collection, well sequenced.
