This is presumably the same definition the present government of NL is using to justify signing a 50 year #ChurchillFalls deal that a bunch of people have already demonstrated to be terrible.

Good day to write your MHA/MP

Image of a social media post detailing an email to members of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly

My letter to my MHA, the three party leaders, Lloyd Parrott, and the three independent members of the MHA:
Honourable Members,
I am writing to you today to express to you in frank and certain language that I do not support the signing of the MOU and DCIA on Churchill Falls. There are far too many questions and clear and obvious problems being pointed out by numerous well-credentialed public individuals for my comfort, and too many questionable statements being made in defence of the agreement by members of the government.
Further, the sitting government made commitments during its election campaign which it has now shown it has no intention of honouring in any form. Given the narrow margin by which it presently holds power, I no longer consider this government to have a mandate to sign an agreement of this magnitude.
I urge you to vote no on this matter. I further urge you to collectively step away from negotiations afterwards and engage in an open and fulsome dialogue with critics and the public more generally.
Respectfully,
Michael Burton

OPINION: Instead of handing Quebec another half-century of profits from N.L. resources, maybe we should consider merging the two provinces, writes 'Energy Futures' columnist Angela Antle. #nlpoli #ChurchillFalls

I wish I could show you all (particularly #canadians) how much media blitzing the NL government is doing right now to try to bulldoze their critics on the #ChurchillFalls MOU. Literally minutes apart I'm seeing messages from the premier's personal page, the PC party, and the Government of NL #nlpoli

#nlpoli #ChurchillFalls math:

Sept 14 - Barry Perry states that in order to equal the $10B in pre-2041 value, Churchill Falls power would need to sell for 18 cents per kWh after 2041.

The proposed agreement sees a price of somewhere around 11.5 cents per kWh in 2041. 6.5 cents lower.

I just want #canpoli #canadians to know that there is an extremely cogent set of critics in #nlpoli that have presented a long, detailed, and extremely incisive set of criticisms of the #ChurchillFalls MOUs, and the province's response has been to call them names and ignore ever substantial critique

@mikemurphyburton.bsky.socialSep 14, 2026, 10:11 PM

Furious with the province today. What a bunch of ignoramuses masquerading as experts. May their names live forever in ignominy.

I would encourage every #canadian to listen to Fred Hutton's remarks in this session of the NL House of Assembly. What he's saying about how NLers feel about the 1969 #ChurchillFalls agreement, about the unceasing torment of our neighbours' exploitation, are vital.

Fun fact about #churchillfalls: The lifetime average price paid by Quebec in the AMAZING! NEW! AGREEMENT! is around 7.5 cents per kwh. And the NL premier has the gall to talk about how they'll pay 150%, "if it's 10 cents it'll be 15 cents". I cannot even with this MF today.

I'm at work, but my provincial government is also opening the debate on #churchillfalls today, and so far a member of the government caucus crossed the floor and the house decided NOT to factor that into the rules of the already severely compressed debate, so if you'll pardon me I need to lie down.

#ChurchillFalls is currently powering a lot of conversations about economics and politics inside #nlpoli generally, though unfortunately that community largely still resides elsewhere than this service. But I hope #Canadians are getting at least a taste of all the smoke being generated right now.
