New research explores why some women living in disadvantaged areas choose not to take part in #BowelScreen.
It looks at how life circumstances, knowledge, emotions and confidence can influence decisions about screening.

Publishing the report, Prof @russelln.bsky.social, #CervicalCheck Clinical Director, said: “The data in this report demonstrates the important role cervical screening plays in preventing cervical cancer and detecting it at an early stage when treatment can be more effective.”

5-year screening coverage reached 75.8% at the end of 2024.
Coverage remains highest among younger women:
• 93% among women aged 25 to 29
• 91% among women aged 30 to 34
We're continuing to focus on increasing participation across all eligible age groups.

The report shows:
• 8,749 women were diagnosed and treated for high-grade abnormal cell changes
• 208 women were diagnosed and treated for cervical cancer.
Early detection and timely treatment can save lives.

During the reporting period:
• 379,732 women had a cervical screening test
• 11.9% tested positive for HPV
• 8.3% were referred for colposcopy.
Screening helps prevent cervical cancer through early detection and treatment of abnormal cell changes.
