@helenbennett.bsky.social’s thrown out #BokehBirds as the #BirdOfTheDay theme. Here is a sweet #ChippingSparrow with an appropriate blurry background. #birds #WildlifePhotography #ECK

A small brown bird with a white breast, belly, and collar sits among evergreen branches. It has a black line going back from its eye and a reddish brown “cap.”

Happy weekend! Here's the final 2 of my Bainbridge Island birds collection! About 70 in total 😃🐦🐦‍⬛🪶💖 This is a Chipping Sparrow and a Hutton's Vireo. I've really enjoyed drawing all these birds 😁 Thank you for your kindness. 💖 #bainbridgeislandbirds #chippingsparrow #huttonsvireo #birdwatching

#Silhoutte; any bird in silhouette.
Here's a #ChippingSparrow badly backlit but making a decent silhouette photo.

A Yellow Plea

I like how the American goldfinch (Spinus tristis) seems to call out to the chipping sparrow (Spizella passerina) as it departs. ...

"Only the left edge of a wooden bird feeder appears in the lower right corner of the frame — just a slim strip of weathered wood, barely enough space for a single bird to perch. Balanced on that narrow edge is a male American goldfinch, bright and striking. His body is a rich, glowing yellow, almost like a small lantern against the soft, muted background. His wings carry bold black-and-white patterns, crisp and clean, but his head is pure yellow — smooth, unmarked, without the black cap that males wear in summer.

He’s turned toward the left, leaning forward slightly, beak parted as if calling out — a sharp, urgent note frozen in mid‑moment. His posture feels alert, almost pleading, like he’s trying to get the attention of someone already slipping away.

On the left side of the image, a chipping sparrow is caught in mid‑flight. Its brown‑and‑tan feathers blur into soft streaks as its wings beat rapidly. The sparrow’s tiny feet are tucked close to its belly, and its body angles upward, already committed to leaving. It’s rising away from the feeder, away from the goldfinch, but still close enough that you can feel the connection — a fleeting exchange between two birds, one calling out, the other already airborne.

The background melts into gentle, out‑of‑focus branches and soft woodland colors, making the birds stand out like two small voices in a quiet morning. The whole scene feels like a moment of communication caught just before it disappears — the goldfinch calling, the sparrow departing, and only the faintest sliver of feeder anchoring the moment to earth." - Microsoft Copilot with edits by the photographer
