$"Temptation" (Adam and Eve) (also simply referred to as Adam and Eve), created by the prominent modernist artist Marc Chagall in 1912. Key Details About the Artwork • Style: The painting demonstrates a highly distinctive Cubist style inflected with early modernism. Chagall painted this piece shortly after moving to Paris in 1910, where he fractured traditional biological shapes into geometric planes, facets, and angles. Subject Matter: It reimagines the biblical Genesis narrative. On the right, the green-faceted figure of Eve reaches into the foliage to grab the forbidden fruit. She prepares to pass it to the golden, abstracted figure of Adam standing on the left. Symbolism: True to Chagall's lifelong signature style, whimsical animal figures are integrated into the scene—including a tiny goat near the bottom left and a small bird perched atop the antlers of a deer in the bottom right corner. Current Location: The original oil on canvas masterpiece is permanently housed in the collection of the Saint Louis Art Museum in Missouri, United States.$
