"Nara Park is a vast public park located in the city of Nara, accessible by train from Kyoto in approximately 35 to 45 minutes. Established in 1880, it is home to between 1,200 and 1,400 free-roaming sika deer (*shika*), which are considered sacred natural treasures.

The sika deer (*Cervus nippon*) is a medium-sized deer native to East Asia that retains its distinctive white spots throughout its life.

Males stand between 70 and 95 cm tall at the shoulder and weigh between 40 and 70 kg.
A prominent white patch adorns the rump and flares out when the animal is startled. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
It primarily inhabits the forests of Japan, China, and Taiwan.
The species has been introduced to several European countries and North America, sometimes becoming an invasive species.
This elusive animal frequents dense woodlands and is most active at dusk or during the night.
