So 10.5 is a summary of sorts but the statements are sort of dense and encyclopedic. For a more readable overview, the plain language summary is where you want to go.

I'll end brain dump here for now but please bring on the questions and/or requests for more info on certain bits! #CCCR2026 13/13

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:39 AM

Finally, the last section of the chapter, 10.5 is just some high level statements that the author team fought tooth and nail over every word but aren't exactly "key messages" or "headline statements" since they are based on both literature plus our expert judgement/experience. #CCCR2026 12/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:38 AM

These can be thought of as "extended hazards tables" - drawing from the foundation of the info in 10.4 but adding additional sources, linking to climate data - currently only a few hazards but this section will grow and be evergreen - watch this space #CCCR2026 11/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:35 AM

Of course, space is limited in a report of that nature and section 10.4 needed to restrict itself to the knowledge assessed in the rest of the report. So what next if you're interested in a particular hazard? The newly launched climatedata.ca/resource/cli... sections #CCCR2026 let you dig more 10/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:33 AM

If you find yourself wanting to know more about "ok so where do I get more information on X" where X is one of the hazards in that graphic, then the analogous subsection in 10.4 is a great start. It summarizes what we know, direction of change, what indicators might help us plan, etc. #CCCR2026 9/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:31 AM

That blog links to a handy dandy infographic (direct link climatedata.ca/assets/uploa...) which is in its own right a good summary of the key messages throughout the report that are the most relevant to planning for life in our changed climate. #CCCR2026 8/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:27 AM

The bulk of the chapter is in the penultimate section 10.4 on hazards, which seeks to summarize findings in the assessment chapters (2 through 9) by hazard, which is how most of us tend to think about climate. This section has its own blog over at climatedata.ca/news/hazard-... #CCCR2026 7/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:24 AM

There is a wide range of topics in 10.3 from downscaling to uncertainty to differences in baseline periods to an important and interesting contribution on ecosystem services and shifting seasonal rounds by @jannawale.bsky.social - one of four Indigenous case stories/boxes in Ch10 #CCCR2026 6/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:18 AM

After the "brief history of climate services" in 10.2, the next section is "what to expect when you're expecting to use climate projections" - a collection of 8 of the main topics you might run into when making data-driven decisions about adapting your work to climate change. #CCCR2026 5/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:15 AM

So how does Chapter 10 answer "so what/what next"? A few ways! First, it *briefly* (I promise!) describes the emerging field of climate services and touches on why you (yes, you!) probably need to think about how your work should be different due to the fact that climate is changing #CCCR2026 4/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:07 AM

Chapter 10 is "Climate services and using climate information" - and this is a new feature to the report. The next IPCC Assessment Report round will also have a dedicated Climate services chapter but we did it here first :) Direct link to Chapter 10 is: www.canada.ca/en/environme... #CCCR2026 3/x

@tqmurdock.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 12:02 AM

The full report is available at www.canada.ca/en/environme... and there are links to a report summary and to headline statements. See also climatedata.ca/news/canadas... for an infographic of the headline statements. But for this thread, we'll skip ahead to Chapter 10 #CCCR2026 2/x

Earlier this month, Canada's Changing Climate Report 2026 was launched. What does this mean for planning, preparedness, resilience, climate risk assessment in our changing climate? I'm glad you asked. Welcome to a mega-thread on the "so what / what next" of #CCCR2026 findings and information 1/x
