Zoro's autistic traits - Candy in a Cave Fic link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/85867706 I used a lot of different autistic traits for Zoro, some he has canonically, some that can be extrapolated, and some that I thought just fit his character. The canon ones are in italics. If you guys want to know more about this, you can research autistic traits of course, but especially the notion of "monotropism" that, I think, fits extremely well with Zoro's functioning. I couldn't list everything because there's a lot in canon, and the fic is long, so feel free to add your own notes in the comments, I'm curious! List of traits that show in the fic Slow processing and difficulty to multitask It takes Zoro a full brain loop to understand he's gonna have to sleep with Sanji. He has a hard time focusing on thinking and facing a situation at the same time (Candy in the cave, opponents in general, needs time to process said situation). Sanji has noticed, so he tries to give him time to think about his answers. He double checks or gives precisions. (It happens outside the cave as well.) “I don’t need you to return my feelings.” Sanji looks up, surprised. “What?” He can’t help but smirk. He feels like he’s won something. Sanji was afraid of hurting him, but Zoro wasn’t. “Marimo, if you’ve decided to wait for me until I love you back, or some bullshit related to your unwavering devotion, let me tell you, it’s pointless.” Zoro doesn’t get what he’s talking about, so he stands frozen in front of his friend. Sanji lets out a heart-wrenching sigh and takes his hand to guide him into the room. The syrupy liquid in his gut does a little somersault; Zoro feels himself smile. The cook has them sit on the edge of the bed and keeps his hand clasped in Zoro’s. He bites his lip in search of a cigarette, tearing away the skin that covers the last bit of red. The gash fills with blood; Zoro cranks his neck to lick it. Sanji lets him, motionless. He doesn’t respond to the gesture, as if he were trying to convey something Zoro doesn’t understand. Finally, the cook speaks up again: “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have let you believe it with Candy
 I told you it was just an act, I
” “What are you talking about?” Zoro cuts him off, thrilled to have tasted a little blood. Sanji tries to sit up straight, to stand tall so he can be proud of what he’s about to say, even though it seems like a problem, a flaw he’d been carrying around and would have preferred to get rid of.

“Oh, but it’s not Candy. It’s you.” Sanji stares at him in the mirror, speechless. Zoro decides to show what he means with his actions and kisses his bare shoulder before pressing himself against the cook’s back and wrapping his arms around him. He looks at him in the mirror, straight into his eyes. Their reflection seems strange to him, a reversal of who they are, but he finds that the two men covered in Luffy-red, facing him, look outrageously good together. “Me.” Sanji exhaled the word, returning his steady gaze through the glass. It’s as if their doubles are talking in a parallel dimension, but Zoro is convinced they’re saying the same thing, so he nods and kisses Sanji again, on the shoulder, along his neck. Then, the cook breaks the moment by turning around: “Are you fucking kidding me?!” Zoro had kind of expected this; he just steps back with a smirk. “What, ’that a problem for you? I can be asexual and still enjoy sex with you.” This time, Sanji grabs him by his necklace and pulls him close, his teeth clenched and looking furious. “Seriously, you couldn’t have said something sooner?! I spent hours getting all this crap ready when there was no need?! Do you have any idea how much it costs to be a woman?! I have suits cheaper than this lingerie set!”
