Old man wanted some of my long-awaited quesadilla.
He knows damn well I don't feed dogs at the table.
...Sigh.
But I'm not a *monster.* He's got cancer for crying out loud.

Photo taken from the perspective of a pale man sitting at a table eating a quesadilla. His hand and wrist, the former holding a bitten-into quesadilla quarter, the latter bearing an extensive skin graft, are visible along with a colorful ceramic plate in the foregroun, just out of focus. Above that in the photo, in focus, is a green and blue plaid tablecloth with two folded green cloth napkins, a chair with a lumbar pillow, and a dog. This dog, Bolt, is a fairly large blue merle tricolor with a big white blaze up his snout to his forehead and button ears. He's very fluffy in the manner of sheepdogs, because he's half Australian shepherd, half border collie, all handsome. His mouth is hanging open a little. He has sectorial heterochromia in his right eye and the left is all brown, and both of them are all big and hopeful as he stares intently at the quesadilla with obvious longing. Behind him, in unintentional environmental foreshadowing, is a dark wood cabinet atop which can be seen one of several box-shaped cedarwood funerary urns. It bears the name of the previous pack leader, Stryder, who preceeded Bolt, the current leader, in death in 2022.

Another photo from the perspective of the pale man sitting at the table. In this one, his left arm is outstretched to feed a bit of quesadilla to Bolt, who has gone whale-eyed in excitement but is being as gentle about taking the morsel as he can manage given the circumstances. More of the funerary table can be seen in the background: Stryder's ash box, and Jimmy's, and a red ceramic heart fired with ashes within labeled Nana, along with a male Northern cardinal made of painted wood, two shed deer antlers, and a woven basket full of pine cones.
