Meet Caillch, the embodiment of the "Cailleach" concept.
In Gaelic tradition, Caillch lived for ages, shaping the land and commanding the weather. It is said that storms and winter are her greatest domains.

#FolkloreThursday In harvest lore of Scotland the last sheaf could become the #Cailleach, the “Old Woman.” Kept through winter, the grain might later be fed to livestock or returned to the earth.

The old harvest spirit carried into the new. 🌾

In #Scottish and #Irish folklore the Dolly is associated with two figures of arguable antiquity: the #Cailleach or hag and #Brigit or the Bride, who may have been the hag’s maiden form.

In Irish harvest lore, the last standing sheaf was called the Cailleach, the Old Woman.
In one tradition, it was left standing for the “wee fellows” before being cut and kept for the year.
