Byblos in One Colour

Byblos, a label known for colour and plenty of it, spent a whole page of Vogue on one red, and made the dress a setting for the roses.

This is a vintage fashion advertisement from Vogue, April 1988, for the brand Byblos. It shows a woman with dark curly hair pinned up, wearing a red structured dress with angular shoulders, holding a bouquet of red roses close to her face as she smells them. The brand name Byblos appears in outline lettering at the bottom of the page, and the credits identify the art director as Nando Miglio and photographer as Eddy Kohli.

Our #ObjectoftheWeek is a small copper bull figurine from the Temple of Baalat Gebal in ancient Byblos, Lebanon. Dating to ca. 1800–1700 BCE, it was part of a votive deposit known as the “Golden Calf” deposit.
