These two Butterfly Collection pieces have settled into a collector’s home, and they’re helping turn it into a quiet retreat. I’m so grateful that something made in my studio gets to be part of someone else’s everyday life.

@judithmonroe.bsky.socialI'm proud of this work. It feels a little weird to say that out loud, but it's true.
I never actually planned on making butterfly art. I just wanted a butterfly collection & for a long time that felt like an unfinished childhood dream…
@judithmonroe.bsky.socialWhen you bring one of these pieces home, you're not just bringing home a beautiful image of a butterfly.
You're bringing home years of walking trails and paying attention. Images of real specimens from butterflies that lived full lives…
@judithmonroe.bsky.socialMy Butterfly Collection opens tomorrow (10/8)
“I love butterflies.
Miraculous creations
from one
who made the world
from nothing
Out of the shell —
self-made tomb—
blooms wonder
A resurrection
truly transformed
to fly—“

@judithmonroe.bsky.socialPeople ask me why butterflies show up so much in my work.
I've always loved them. I find them on the trail & in the garden. I learn their names. I stop & watch them longer than most people do. Then I learned what actually happens inside a chrysalis…

@judithmonroe.bsky.socialThink that my butterfly art will be too big for your space? I have some small pieces that will fit on a shelf or that tiny spot on your wall.
My Butterfly Collection goes public this Thursday!

@judithmonroe.bsky.socialHave you ever wanted a butterfly collection but didn't quite know how to make it happen?
Same. For a long time, it felt like a childhood dream that just never came together. Then I figured out how to collect specimens I could actually enjoy, and…
@nejones.bsky.socialYou don't have to go to Costa Rica to see one — I found this Banded Orange Heliconian at the Tennessee Aquarium... #ButterflyArt #Chattanooga
@judithmonroe.bsky.social“Savored Moments” - A stack of collected beauties reminding us that transformation sometimes means we have to fall apart first. (Because that’s what butterflies do in the chrysalis.)
@judithmonroe.bsky.socialA butterfly doesn't gradually transform inside a chrysalis. It first liquefies completely, becomes just liquid, before it reforms into something new. Falling apart, it turns out, is sometimes exactly what transformation requires.
@judithmonroe.bsky.social"Butterfly Collection #15" features a Sulphur butterfly, a Spot-celled Sister, and an Indamora Glider, each a small story of transformation, resilience, and quiet endurance…
@judithmonroe.bsky.socialI have always been a collector.
Rocks. Shells. A stamp collection I should probably look for someday. And somewhere along the way, a childhood dream of having a butterfly collection that never quite happened.
Until recently…
@judithmonroe.bsky.socialDid you know that there are over 550 species of swallowtail butterflies worldwide? They live on every continent except Antarctica. Most species prefer warm, tropical & subtropical regions, especially in Southeast Asia, but…

@judithmonroe.bsky.social"I love it but where would I put it?" My Butterfly Collection artworks range from small pieces that tuck onto a shelf, all the way up to larger statement pieces that anchor a whole room. There's genuinely something for every space & every budget.
@judithmonroe.bsky.socialThe fun part about having a butterfly collection is that they always look so nice together.
Can you tell what species these butterflies are? Look in comments for the answer.
My Butterfly Collection will be released soon.
