Trying something. Pigments dusted on a wash coat of Matte Medium.
Pre painted with a custom rusty mix of Tamiya lacquer paints.
Next up is chipping fluid, top coat of flat aluminum and then off to the power washer.

Workbench update: Brutes are built, starting to work on bases for them and the Megaboss so I can call them assembled.
Wow, that's a stash!! Some bargains to be had.
#buildthestash or you will end up having to do that.👍
The 2 group builds have been #histscalemodels fun but they have broken a vow to #Buildthestash. I definitely have to clear off the last of the Airfix that was in it.
Workbench update: there's a fair bit going on. Some things being cleaned up for assembly, some subassemblies waiting to dry so I can see if they need sprue goo to remove seam lines, and several items needing some sort of basing so they can be called assembled!
Fourth of four Talon Games CAV Bunker test schemes is done, this time an attempt with an initial idea of "burnt red" that went it's own way.
Once again, the goal was for textural variation, but also for it to look good under room lighting as well as painting lights.
Third Talon Games CAV bunker is done and dusted! Original idea was something vaguely along the lines of "burnt orange" and I wound up with something that was sort of that, sort of rusty, and sort of earthen.
Here's the second colour scheme I tested out on a Talon Games CAV bunker. This time, the goal was for something inspired by Manic Panic's HOT HOT Pink. I wanted some textural variety, but it absolutely had to look good in room lighting as well.
I'll take some better photos once it's primed and prepped, so here's some close ups of the Warp Lightning Cannon. I'm looking forward to painting this, as the Warp Lightning Cannon is actually what drew me to the Skaven decades ago!
Slowly getting bits together. The Ducati engine is mostly done and now the wheels are in progress.

Skaven Vanguard's built, whoo! Crew for the Warp Lightning Cannon will be a very rare case of being painted separately simply because otherwise you literally won't be able to paint most of the model if you follow the instructions.
Fox workbench update: as per tradition, I wanted to add a bit of flair to the Warp Lightning Cannon's base, so it's going to take a few more sessions to sort out, but it'll fit in alongside the Crazy Taxi inspired Screaming Bell, so I'm not complaining.

Working on the wooden ship model of the Rainbow - the winner of the 1934 America's Cup race. Lots of things after that.
Workbench update, terrible phone photo edition! Last Stormfiend is assembled, basics for the bases of the last two sorted. Even did some nice 45 degree bends for the brass rod for one of them because of how the feet are. Now to wait for things to dry.
Better pics later on (and of the finished piece too!), but for now, a WIP. It's been fun working on these bunkers to sort out a few colour ideas. Not only do I get to see how a few things look, but I also get to mark things in the stash as painted too!
Testing out some colour combinations on some Talon Games CAV bunkers. Calling this one done. Contemplating tweaking this recipe a bit for the Kodiak, as that gear would look rather lovely in this plus a nice burnt orange, and maybe some hot, hot pink too...
Looking at their website it has been there for ages. But it's very hidden.
If it wasn't for #buildthestash I would have come out with a couple of kits. 👍
Thanks a lot!
Always great to try out new techniques and it actually works! 😂
On the upside you are not giving up on #buildthestash 💪
(Meanwhile I am already eyeing new things to add to the stash 🫣)
Already got a few ideas rolling in my head for that 1:35 Kodiak, so I'm bringing some CAV terrain pieces out from the stash to sort some of the canonical ones out first, then a few twists I think might work well. Pity I didn't order extra turrets during the Kickstarter.
I was tempted to add the North and South starter armies to my order, but I'm committed to #buildthestash this year. Given that I've always been tempted by their models, odds are first quarter next year I'll be looking into buying some of their 1:144 plastic, pewter, and 3d printed resin models.
