An obvious arrival of Barnacle Geese today, with birds flying in off the sea into a fresh westerly, bringing numbers around the bay to at least 4,500 by late afternoon inc three leucistic birds #BudleBay #NEbirding
At least three in #BudleBay by late afternoon
Regular counts suggest that the number of roosting Pink-footed Geese in the bay is much reduced so far this autumn. Most are arriving high from the north and continue straight through, rather than settling in the area #BudleBay #NEbirding
Thirty-five Whoopers through today, always a pleasure #BudleBay #NEbirding
This young Peregrine was causing mayhem among the wildfowl and waders this am #BudleBay #NEbirding
Red-breasted Merganser & Goosander #BudleBay #NEbirding
Just a single Knot in bay this am, how times have changed ! #BudleBay #NEbirding
The above show size compared to a feral Canada present all week. A few more show size relative to Barnies #BudleBay #NEbirding
Today saw a slightly belated Barnacle movement, with 1,300 by late afternoon. As ever, the flock was worth scrutinising for North Atlantic Canada and that proved worthwhile, with this presumed Todd's arriving mid-afternoon #BudleBay #NEbirding
This year has seen a marked decline in the usual late-summer Goosander moult gatherings. Numbers, which can often reach around 100 birds, have remained unusually low, with groups of fewer than 10 recorded to date #BudleBay #NEbirding @rossahmed.bsky.social
Plenty of Stonechats today #BudleBay #NEbirding
Despite good birds either side of us at Holy Isle and Newton, migrants were notably scarce. The highlight was 250 Little Gulls ,with three Bramblings + four Redpolls also recorded. With little else moving, attention turned to a close Grey Plover #BudleBay #NEbirding
Little change over the week: six Spotted Redshanks and the Curlew Sandpiper still present today, plus an Osprey through and the first two returning Barnacle Geese #BudleBay #NEbirding
