It is the birthday, in 1810, of English novelist and biographer Elizabeth Gaskell.

She wrote what are known as “society” novels, about the roles of women and the laws and customs that drew so many bright lines around their opportunities.

Found at local used bookstore, The Book Rescuers! 1943 Wuthering Heights illus. by Fritz Eichenberg. Pics don’t shy from frenzied violence of story. Originally pubbed in set w/ Jane Eyre. I’ll def be keeping an eye out!
