Her black drop-waist afternoon dress is based on a French Madeleine & Madeleine gown from around 1919 (purchased at Bergdorf & Goodman in New York City), and π‘πŽπ”π†π‡ 𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐓 πŒπ„β„’ apparently decided the reader needed a full guided tour of every pleat, sash, neckline, floral accent, and daring inch of dropped waist. πŸ˜‚

The final version keeps the parts that actually matter: the loose silhouette, the decorative bands, the modern shape, and what the dress says about Audrey.

She’s fashionable. Confident. A little unconventional. And, crucially, she’s showing Lottie a version of womanhood that feels newer and freer than anything she grew up around.
One of the things I loved about writing The Last Heir of Bradbury Manor was using the clothes to help tell that story.

The fashion still matters... I just eventually learned it doesn’t all need its own paragraph.
