The Blender application is open, the window is split into two segments and shows a transparent alien creature within the scene. The left of the window shows the armature within the creature's model. The right window shows the creature in a preview render without the armature. The creature has four long tentacles on its torso and look like limbs (arms and legs). The creature is posed leaning forward with the base of the tentacles going back before arching forward, the tips of the tentacles facing to the front of the creature. there are eleven tentacles around what looks like the shoulder area, surrounding the neck. The "neck" of the creature is long, eventually ending in a spherical "head" where a pair of eyes connected to nerves can be seen floating inside the transparent dome. The pose is to test both the controls of the armature and whether the model is weight painted to the rig properly. The shoulder and neck rig are the only parts that do not have controls set up yet.

The onion based uproot is fully rigged now (excluding the facial expressions). Now all I need to do is rig and weight paint the poncho and set up bone shapes.

The image shows the window of the 3D modeling application Blender, with a plant creature that appears to take inspiration from a leek based on its flat leaves.The initial design posted earlier had red/pink coloring, this was changed as red onions do not have flat leaves. The onion character is in an exaggerated pose as a way of testing if it had been weight painted to the armature correctly. This model uses a different technique for the elbow rig and is double jointed. This was done to make it easier to make correction shape keys for when the elbow bends. The rig also uses the tentacle rig from the tutorial video by Pierrick Picaut’s tutorial video for the leaves. A modified version of the tentacle rig is also used for the limbs to help with arm twisting and to add more flexibility when animating.

Here shown is one of the human characters that I have made to compare how small the ant-like skritters actually are. The stilting sneer and the beetle-like rolling skraggle can be seen next to a soda can at the right foot of the human character to scale. The skritters are so small, only small yellow dots can be seen by the can.This image shows the in-blender scaling of the creatures. As the skritters are too small to animate at their real size, a large can is used as a reference for any other object that is used for a scene render. Essentially the can is scaled to real life dimensions, from which any downloaded object is parented to the scaled can. From here the can is scaled to its original large scale, enlarging anything that was parented to it.
