Kentucky members of the Black Lung Association visited Washington, D.C. trip this week to inform congressional members of the growing rates of #blacklung in Central Appalachia and the needed enforcement of the 2024 Silica Rule to lower working miners exposure to #silica dust.
Coal miners, their families & medical professionals from #Kentucky, #Pennsylvania, #Virginia and #WestVirginia gathered in the nation’s capitol yesterday to meet with senators & representatives to advocate for improving #BlackLung benefits & protections.

Today we joined dozens of Natl. Black Lung Association members in DC to bring coal communities’ voices to lawmakers. We’re talking about rising #BlackLung, stronger silica dust protections & barriers to benefits. Black lung is at a 50-year high. Miners deserve better.

Thank you to @govandybeshear.bsky.social for urging support of the #SupportOurMinersAct. Kentucky #BlackLung Association members will be in DC next week to discuss these and other issues with their Congressional offices. We hope to see more leaders take action to show their support of coal miners.

NEW FILM: “Do You Have to Be Dead?” Coal miners with black lung are forced through years of delay while their lungs fail. I turned Michael Sainato’s @us.theguardian.com report into a narrated workers’ film with real footage and music. Watch: youtu.be/qS_vzTMh5ew #BlackLung
“Coal Dust Nation” is my musical tribute to miners fighting black lung and a benefits system that can take longer than their lungs can last. Hear it, share it, and stand with injured workers: youtu.be/hyXDJ0UQc9g #ProtestMusic #BlackLung #LaborMusic
Coal miners and injured WORKERS are told to trust “the process”—even when it delays, denies and wears families down for years. Medicare for All matters, but it will not end the class war on labor. Only enforceable federal standards can do that. A musical tribute. 🧵 #BlackLung
Black Lung is at the highest rate it has been in decades while benefits for those afflicted with Black Lung are at their lowest. The Trump administration's efforts to roll back regulations designed to protect miners will only lead to more sickness and death.

This is no bueno!
" #CoalWorkers pneumoconiosis, or #blacklung disease, is one of over 200 types of #pulmonaryfibrosis ...classified as an interstitial lung disease."
This happens when miners have to cut through (mass amts of) rock to reach coal (because clean coal seams have been depleted).
