I watched this #bittern early morning last Wednesday literally getting some rays! It was perched above the waterline with its head up & slowly turning from left to right & back again as it enjoyed the rising sun.(more in alt)

It’s usually a big challenge to spot bitterns at the local nature reserve apart from when they fly around. No hides, a big reserve & lots of likely hiding places you can’t even see. But on Wednesday morning last week this bittern was sunbathing and standing out in the rising sun and so less than it’s usual camouflage. In this shot it was perched upright way above the waterline with its head up looking to its right and the left of the scene. As I watched it would turn its head left and right and back again soaking in the rays - amazing and such a pleasure to watch!
