Framed by leafy green foliage, two colossal grey masonry walls tower over a wide lawn under an overcast sky. Suspended between the crenellated stone pillars is an immense, cylindrical wooden instrument base rigged with complex curved timber frameworks, elevated wooden staircases, and supporting iron cables. The formidable gothic-industrial structure stands quiet and weathered, nestled within dense woodland.

Even the moss seems to have become more muted as the leaves turn orange around it. buff.ly/K5G4ISq

A low-angle photograph looking through the moss-covered, twisting branches of a deciduous tree along a riverbank. Thick green moss wraps around the coarse bark, with small ferns sprouting from the limbs. Below, large broad leaves line the bank beside a clear, shallow stream flowing gently over stones. In the background, autumnal foliage in shades of gold, amber, and olive frames the scene under soft, diffused daylight.

The suspension footbridge within the grounds of Birr Castle, Co. Offaly was built between 1821 and 1825 - a rare surviving example of an early wire-cable suspension bridge. It is the oldest wrought-iron suspension bridge in Ireland.
