Getting into the badly-edited photo game for #BirdoftheYear2026. Vote #seabirds
These petrelheads have emissions which are good for the environment (in Aotearoa, seabirds like petrels fertilise our forests, by carrying nitrogen and phosphorus from the ocean and depositing it on land).

3 formula 1 racing cars with the heads of 3 different petrels clumsily edited onto the drivers. Text: vote for the petrelheads with emissions which are *good* for the environment. Vote tāiko, tākoketai and tītī for Bird of the Year 2026

This is your first (mute me if you have to 😅) reminder to vote for Ngaire and Lefty, a.k.a. pūtangitangi/ paradise shelducks #birdoftheyear2026 - they are the absolute biggest personalities and unsung heroes in Aotearoa.
Overseas friends, you can vote too! A BIRD ELECTION. www.birdoftheyear.org.nz

Ngaire, a chestnut coloured shelduck with white head, and Lefty, a black shelduck with chestnut tail feathers, are standing amongst fallen orange leaves and sparse agapanthus. There's a food box next to Ngaire and a pond in the background.Lefty, a black shelduck, is floating in a pond. He's contrasted in a bright white reflection with circular ripples around him and he's lifting his bill up taking a drink. You can see the ghosts of stones below him, but the water is murky.Ngaire stands on a brilliant green lawn, weight on her left foot. She's looking to the left, showing her full outer selection of wing feathers which range from white through bottle green and chestnut, all the way to charcoal and black. Here's a screenshot of bird of the year showing the pūtangitangi candidate. Who ought to be your number one, but if you're repping another lovely manu Ngaire is happy to accept second 😇 she's so humble.

I voted for underdogs in #BirdoftheYear2026 including the Skua again, even though brought the bird flu here and the Little Brown Creeper - not their fault they’re weirdos

Small. Loud. Precise. Expressive. Found in the Hutt.

MSL is #TeamPīwakawaka. What about you?

[Artwork by RunBabyRun Studio on Etsy. It coincidentally matches MSL's brand colours!]

a cartoon depiction of a piwakawaka. Its tail is open and it has adopted a sassy stance. In its feet are very cool trainers. The whole image is in black, white, orange and shaded of beige

🥁🥁🥁 Drumroll, please... 🥁🥁🥁

MSL's choice for Bird of the Year for 2026 is the pīwakawaka (fantail)!

a NZ fantail, with its distinctive white and black plumage, and a tail that is fully open. Its remarkable eyebrows are on show too, as it regards the viewer from dense bush

It's nearly time for #BirdoftheYear2026. This year, I'm campaign manager for tītī | Cook's petrel. It's a trans-Pacific jet-setter with an underground bunker in Aotearoa, but this bird's emissions are actually GOOD for the environment!
