Is there room for spontaneity in the doctor-patient relationship? In this paper, the authors have provided an introduction of several unique Daoist concepts and attempted to show how these can connect with current issues of interest to the bioethical community. bit.ly/4clQH8G #Bioethics #PhilSky

Public-Personal Dilemmas Abound!

Prevent transmission vs. Retain liberty

Allocate care fairly vs. Secure care for me/mine

Protect future people vs. Minimize present costs

Our goals for society frequently conflict with our personal goals. An argument from precaution or altruism

P1. There are great yet preventable risks or harms.

P2. If we can prevent great risk or harm without thereby causing great risk or harm, then we should.

P3. Subjecting ourselves (and one another) to experiments and surveillance can prevent great risk or harm without thereby causing great risk or harm/

C1. We should subject ourselves (and one another) to experiments and surveillance.

And opportunities to experiment and surveil are growing! So this (pro tanto) duty is increasingly rife.

This duty seems pro tanto. (It can be outweighed by competing interests... such as?)UNLV's Philosophy officesUNLV's School of Law

In 10 years, MedEd will completely evolve past rote memorization. With AI handling instant diagnostic data, the doctor of the future will be trained as a humanistic navigator. Tomorrow’s physicians won't compete with tech, but will use it to return to the heart of medicine. #MedEd #MedSky #Bioethics
