One of my favorite stretches of Lake Shore courtesy of Chicago's #BikeTheDrive last weekend!

@motherchild.bsky.socialSep 9, 2026, 8:58 PM

On Sunday our president Anne Statton was joined for #BikeTheDrive by her nephew Patrick, sister Laurie, and brother-in-law Bill. There was a little extra drama this time due to a flat tire, which required a short “15-minute technical intermission” before Anne and her squad were back on the road.

A montage of five photos from Bike the Drive. At top left, Anne is smiling while wearing her bike helmet and colorful activewear. A lower left, Anne is working on the flat tire repair as others look on. At top right, Anne and her family members in biking gear pose with downtown skyscrapers behind them. At middle right, Anne and her squad pose with their bikes at the beginning of the route. At lower right, Anne and her squad pose on Lake Shore Drive with the Chicago skyline in the distance behind them.

#BiketheDrive in #Chicago, the city shut down Lake Shore Drive for thousands of cyclists this morning.

The current resident of the WH finally got one right. Chicago is crime-ridden. Today roving biker gangs took over streets. #bikethedrive

Name me another city where you can bike thirty miles on a lakefront highway with thousands of your closest friends in the morning, and recover with five hours of free jazz in the evening. Chicago FTW. #bikethedrive #chicagojazzfest

Chicago: Bike the Drive and other concepts for cyclists & pedestrians all began in Colombia in the 1970s. In Bogotá we do this every Sunday! It's called Ciclovía and I wish we did this in Chicago every Sunday during sunny months.

Hey Wikipedia article about Colombia's Ciclovía every Sunday, which is the inspiration for Chicago's Bike the Drive. There's a random sentence in there about Canada for some unknown stupid reason, so I removed it Wikipedia article about Ciclovia in the United StatesChicago from northbound DuSable LSD. Traffic cones in an arrow formation pointing towards the city in the distance. At the tip of the arrow is a group of cyclists and all around are cyclists and pedestrians on a sunny summer dayLooking south from the concrete divider. DuSable Lakeshore Drive is on either side. In the distance can be seen to John Hancock Tower and many more Chicago buildings.

#BiketheDrive in Chicago was a blast this morning. Perfect weather for a bike ride.

A large group of cyclists in front of Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry rest stop. City trucks blockade the north end of Lake Shore Drive. View of south bank of the Chicago River from the bridge. The ride starts and ends in Butler park along Chicago’s lake shore. A gorgeous view of the sky line looking NW.

The #BiketheDrive @activetransportation.org raises the question why is Chicago running an 8 lane DuSable Lake Shore Drive expressway through an incredible lakefront park, creating a giant barrier between miles of neighborhoods and the lake? blockclubchicago.org/2026/09/04/a...

What a perfect day for #bikethedrive. I mostly love the quiet (wind aside) and the unique views, but it's also nice to be able to just put the pedal to the metal in a place where there's actually room for everybody.

Anyways happy #bikethedrive day,

Long line developing at Fullerton for #BikeTheDrive @activetransportation.org registration. Looks like great day for the ride, however.
