The Sony #Betamax SL-5000 #HTPC is done, now just to see if it will actually fit in the TV hutch. I plan to weigh the parts I have removed from it - it is substantially lighter after gutting.

EDIT: It's 11 pounds lighter now. These Sony motors and read heads and actuators and boards could be yours!

The front of the Sony Betamax SL-5000 VCR shot from the left corner. My favorite part is the SIMULATED WOOD CABINET sticker, they were very proud of that. And of course the fake maple burl. The original clock blinks 12:00 PM in blue. The front of the player from the right corner. The top door of the split cassette door has been replaced by a Blu-ray player. The lower door reads Betamax. It is very eighties. The unremarkable back of the VCR. An Optiplex ultra small form factor PC is back here but it's hard to find, my goal. There are various bits and bobs in the foreground.

Hey Retro Tech fans, it's been a while since I've posted anything, life has been getting in the way. But here is a new retro history video about the VCR I think y'all will dig.

[Name your favorite dance scene.]

The opening of HAIR (1979) never fails to activate chills in my upper spine, radiating out from the back of my head (pleasant, & consistent across decades—had #Betamax dub as a kid.) The editing wins. Evokes extra emotion/s when rewatched after seeing whole film.

Another spooky season movie tonighttttt (except yes, I know it's a Christmas movie). Batman Returns on #Betamax.
#PhysicalMedia

CRT TV with a close-up of Catwoman from Batman Returns. Her arm is reaching off camera, her lips are bright red. There is a PS2 sitting in front of the TV and a stack of VHS tapes on top of it. The room is fairly dark. A hand holding a fairly rare late release Beta tape of Batman Returns.

and you could with VHS so the people who agitated for solutions felt insulted by Betamax and how out of touch they were and so it failed. #betamax #VHS #technology

What did you watch this weekend?
#PhysicalMedia #Betamax

A stack of movies on Beta - Tremors, Backdraft, and Die Hard 2 sitting on top of a black TV. There are shadows of the movie stack on the wall behind.
