Faraday's in my writing class??? I really have seen everything. Math and science are often thought of as subjects with strict rules but also where thinking outside the box and ignoring rules thrive. Crazy paradox. #beingmassaged

I have to agree that humor is the best tool to gauge whatever environment you're in. Whether you're meeting a new group of people, talking with the family at a gathering, or even on a date it's one of the best ways to get to know the one's around you and the environment they're around #beingmassaged
Does being anti-social benefit you? I love this section as it appeals to every introvert. If you don't interact with the ways of the world, in your view the complexities of culture and society are simply meaningless. #beingmassaged
The weirdest thing about this book is that McLuhan isn't really asking what technology gives us. He's asking what it takes from us without us noticing. Now my phone's starting to look a little sus. #beingmassaged
It's kinda crazy how much of this book can be applied to social media even though McLuhan wrote it way before any of this existed. He was talking about how media changes us, and now we're basically surrounded by it 24/7. #beingmassaged
Okay I think I’m starting to get what McLuhan is doing. He keeps forcing us to look at normal and think about how they’re changing the way we see everything. literally the matrix. still confused half the time 😭 but I feel like that’s kind of the point. #beingmassaged
medieval day authors need some sort of compensation bro, i would not stomach not being recognized. i guess that's the difference between us gen z kids #beingmassaged
One thing I didn’t expect from this book is how much it talks about books themselves. I’ve always thought of a book as basically just… a book. But the point that different technologies train us to organize information differently is interesting #beingmassaged
so much yet so little left and i'm activily getting more disoriented #beingmassaged
the emphasis and changed in font at certain moments is tripping me up. i guess the whole point of this is to make sure it slows us down and drills the idea in more impactfully #beingmassaged
Faraday's education is so interesting to me because in this day in age it's so hard to think about creating such a crazy impact without "studying it." The point about being an “amateur” is a cheat code cuz you’re not stuck following the rules everyone else already accepts. #beingmassaged
i'm noticing that some of these images don't seem to have an immediate connection to the text. it almost makes you want to re-read it to make sure you haven't missed anything. #absurd #beingmassaged
I understand Socrates' argument that writing can make us rely less on our own memory, but I don't think that necessarily means we understand less. Writing lets us preserve knowledge and build on the ideas of people before us instead of having to rely only on our own memory. #beingmassaged #Socrates
this is kinda chic. this would definitely be considered some artistic masterpiece is a designer came up with it today. #beingmassaged
The “lawnmower” part was kinda funny, lmao. all that buildup for: "the lawnmover." Also the fact that he mentioned cities becoming “information megalopolises,” is kinda crazy considering when this was written. I thought we loved technology! #beingmassaged
so many ode's to "the circuit." it feels like i'm discovering the matrix or something. #beingmassaged
In an electronic world, you can't just separate one person from everyone else and say their guilt is completely theirs. I’m not totally sure I agree with all of it yet, but I like the question it poses. What does “individual responsibility” even look like? #beingmassaged
I don't have much to add but what McLuhan says about the well-adjusted being blind to their environment really resonates with me. Same reason why you would have someone else proofread your work. Perhaps it's also why we can always see others' problems but not our own. lol #beingmassaged
page 20's “When this circuit learns your job, what are you going to do?”
Honestly one of the biggest scare factors in so many professions these days. And unfortunetly, we can't stop using the one thing that might change the way we survive in society forever. #beingmassaged
Quotes like this really make me question everything I've ever thought. If you're surrounded by technology every day, how would you know what it's doing to you? I think this is just a good reminder to always be critical of your surroundings: you shouldn't blindly accept everything #beingmassaged
