Bunch of bees apparently got closed up in the shed after I fed the hives this morning.
They were extremely displeased just now when I opened it to up.
Guess that door's staying open until after dark tonight.
If stores came up short, feed now — 2:1 syrup only works while it's warm enough for bees to process it. That window is closing. Consider fondant now if temps dip below 50F-degrees. Need help? Discuss what you do to help hives in Autumn

This jar took months to make. 🐝 The bees started it. I cared for them. The weather, flowers and landscape shaped it. 🍯 You’re not just buying honey. You’re buying a small part of a season.

These are my girls! I started studying #beekeeping about 3 years ago and finally got a mentor this summer. After 8 weeks as an apprentice, he let me capture a few swarms and set up my hive. Happy to report they are thriving, producing #honey and stockpiling for the winter!
It was lovely having @aleighmp.bsky.social join us during our most recent inspection of the Parliament hives. A chance to see Varroa mite control in #beekeeping first hand!
Can confirm that the #bees liked him!
Requeening math: 16 days to emerge, 5–7 to mate and lay. September is essentually your last shot before the odds turn against you.

[New post] The perfect antidote to shorter days and the lack of any practical beekeeping … associations are now starting their winter talks. Broaden your mine, learn something new, and eat lots of cake 😄.

Population check: does your colony still need every box it's carrying? Consolidating down now, beats an oversized, hard-to-heat hive in January.

27–30 September: weak nectar and restricted forage access leave stores as the main autumn concern across the UK.
