Found an error on Wikipedia. Image is labeled Chuft-Captain, but ackchyually an anonymous henchman. Each Kzin has distinct facial markings! Am I a nerd for knowing that? You should have heard me at Subway today when another customer asked what “B.M.T.” stood for. My brain is full of things! #BCCcon

Meet CHUFT-CAPTAIN, a̶s̶s̶h̶o̶l̶e̶ ̶s̶p̶a̶c̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶t̶ Kzinti antagonist from Star Trek: The Animated Series S1E14 “The Slaver Weapon,” adapted by sci-fi author Larry Niven from his short story “The Soft Weapon.” 53 years and 11 series later, I’m bitter that Kzinti have yet to land a single live-action role. #BCCcon

🚨Another Brutus cosplayer has entered the chat!🚨

I know there’s other Shistas too. Show ‘em if you got ‘em! #BCCcon

Brutus’ dialogue was provided by voice actor legend Fred Tatasciore. He’s got a reputation for gruff deep-voiced characters like Hulk (and Brutus was further pitch-shifted down)…but I knew him as the meek-voiced Kzin Ensign Taylor from Star Trek: Lower Decks. UH OH SOMEONE MENTION KZINTI? #BCCcon

Skeleton Crew leaned into practical effects when possible and Brutus was no exception, just some CGI to move the lips. Underneath was Stephen Oyoung, a versatile actor with many stunt and fight coordinator credits…though Brutus mostly just stomped around all grumpy-like. 🐺💦 #BCCcon

There’s one Brutus cosplayer. One! And only like three people have recognized him, usually is called “wolf guy” or “big bad wolf.” Was disqualified from a Star Wars costume contest because “it’s only for Star Wars characters.” Planned to re-make this more authentic but it’s so disheartening. #BCCCon

Fan recreation of Brutus, not too bad for being made from literal garbage

There’s this whole 1980s retro vibe to the series, where they even released a music video of Peter Schilling’s “Major Tom” sung in Huttese. At one point I made stupid 80s album memes and now you have to look at them, sorry. Anyway, this is supposed to be about fanboying Brutus. #BCCcon

All three onscreen Shistas — Lak Sivrak, Voolvif Monn, Brutus — had official action figures (as opposed to custom figures, a thing people also do). Brutus actually got TWO action figures, a 4-inch and highly detailed 6-inch…surprising considering how poorly marketed Skeleton Crew was.

Lak Sivrak from pre-Special-Edition Episode IV, in action figure form. Very wolfman-looking thing, digitigrade stance, holding a large and boxy blasterVoolvif Monn action figure, standing proudly with his green light saber and a huge smile with way too many teethSmaller of two Brutus action figures, not a great likeness (looks like a cat) with with a ridiculous shoulder cannonLarger of two Brutus action figures, very nicely detailed, all five blasters can be removed, and a decent likeness.

While there was a long dry spell without live-action Shistavanen, they have appeared in Star Wars books, comics and the Clone Wars animated series (as the Jedi master Voolvif Monn). Inexplicably, the animated Shista’s stance is digitigrade, while Brutus is plantigrade. 🤷‍♂️ #BCCcon

Some pre-production Brutus concept art by Aaron McBride. You can see some of the costume’s evolution with the arrival of his signature blaster bandolier, rumored to be inspired by English pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard. How cool is that? #BCCcon

Still has the bone necklace here, which would be dropped along with other changes to the underlying costume.1700s portrait of Blackbeard, with several single-shot flintlock pistols worn along a sash, plus additional guns at his hips.

Meet PIRATE CAPTAIN BRUTUS the Shistavanen, a species missing in live-action Star Wars since the original Episode IV (replaced w/CGI turd in Special Edition). Lak Sivrak was among several masked Cantina aliens provided by Rick Baker, later awarded an Oscar for An American Werewolf in London. #BCCcon

Son of Monsterpalooza starts tonight. Since I’m not there, let’s have our own little BitterCon about it right here on BlueSky! I’ll try to post some stuff about Pirate Captain Brutus and Chuft-Captain through the weekend & maybe a little HHN Japan cyber wolf, as a treat. Bring monsters! 🐺🐯 #BCCcon
