On this day in 1940 the Luftwaffe threw more than a 1000 planes at the south east in an effort to take control of the skies above England, which was essential for their invasion plan.
The RAF withstood the onslaught, handing the Luftwaffe a beating & the invasion was cancelled.
#OnThisDay in 1940, on what would become known as #battleofbritainday, the Luftwaffe launched an attack in a bid to finally overcome the RAF and win air superiority.
London was attacked twice, first at 11:00am, when two waves of aircraft, totalling around 250, bombed the capital.
Today is #BattleOfBritainDay, marking the RAF's decisive victory on September 15 1940.
