BAT-THEME VERSION: Trumpeter Al Hirt, who we all know recorded the GREEN HORNET theme, included the #Batman66 theme on the same album! www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWYp...

As Bruce and Dick go for the Batpoles, they collide! "Excuse me," says Bruce. Somewhere along the line I picked up that this was a total accident that was left in. But where did I see that? Holy geriatrics, I think I need some Bat-memory pills. #Batman66

YES, COMMISSIONER: At a film festival, a mysterious Little Tramp impersonator shows up and puts on a show -- then robs the box office! It's the Riddler - "Our hopes for his reform have been blasted once again," notes Gordon. "Let's hope our unknown friend behind the mask is home." #Batman66

Ma Barker the most wanted women ever on the F.B.I list was born on this day, did ya know that Ma Parker, the gang‑leader villainess in the 1966 Batman TV series, was explicitly inspired by the real‑life figure Kate “Ma” Barker #Batman66

BAT BITS: We begin a look at the first draft of "The Minstrel's Shakedown"! Who, after Van Johnson, was Dozier's SECOND choice to play the Minstrel? What was the Phyllis Diller scene like... without Phyllis? Join our Patreon for $2/month to find out! www.patreon.com/deconcomics #Batman66

BAT-ART: A bit hard to pin down what #Batman66 scene Leslie Thomas was rendering here, but my guess is the Gotham City Radium Center from "How to Hatch a Dinosaur" (S3 E9). Olga would like some "haht stahf"!

Moth!

BAT-THEME COVER: David McCallum, famous for "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." -- and later "NCIS" (guess he likes initialisms?) was also a musician, and he recorded a version of Hefti's #Batman66 theme! www.youtube.com/watch?v=u70C...

Burt, though, makes Adam sound like freakin' Frank Sinatra! Yikes! And the slow-as-molasses arrangement just accents how out of tune he is. Holy nails-on-a-chalkboard! www.youtube.com/watch?v=YorY... #Batman66

B-A-T 40: Both Adam and Burt performed the Nat King Cole hit "Orange Colored Sky", probably because of the Batfightesque sound effects in the lyrics. Adam was a decent vocalist; here is is performing it on Hollywood Palace: www.youtube.com/watch?v=21zF... #Batman66

On #Batman66, of course, she played Lady Penelope Peasoup in the Londinium three-parter (S3 E11-13). Far from our favorite arc, but we'll be revisiting it in a future Bat Bits episode, part of our series on "Women on 'Batman'", with novelist @nancynorthcott.bsky.social !

60 YEARS AGO: 10/5/66 "The Greatest Mother of Them All" is first broadcast, followed by "Ma Parker" the next night. Shelley Winters plays a mother who's also a MUTHA! Ma Parker is based on real-life crook "Ma" Kate Barker, whom Winters also played in 1970 movie "Bloody Mama"! #Batman66

And thus endeth my thread of odd #Batman66 prop signage.

The series lasted 3 seasons, rising into the 60’s stratosphere of Batmania and quickly plunging back to earth.

The moment they greenlit the 3rd season & cut the budget, despite the addition of the alluring Batgirl: the season does suck.

B-A-T 40: Burt Ward also released a record, written and produced by a pre-fame Frank Zappa, who wisely (we'll get to that) chose to give Burt a spoken-word record with musical accompaniment. Burt reads some (apparently real) mail from fans. BoyWonder-mania! #Batman66 www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjoL...

Robin becomes a man. #Batman66

Telling Aunt Harriet that they'll head into town to pay their respects, the boys head for the Batpoles. "I solemnly swear by my oath as a crime fighter that this outrage will not go unavenged," intones Bruce. But at the GCPD, Gordon shows up alive & well, grousing about a parking ticket! #Batman66

YES -- er, WHAT? COMMISSIONER! "The Bookworm Turns" (S1 E29) gives us the biggest deviation from the usual #Batman66 teaser formula, with a shockingly violent scene that turns out to be a put-on: Dick spots the Bookworm on TV at the opening of a bridge; then Gordon is seemingly shot!
