Turkic syllabics aren't just isosyllabic. Mining 17,895 Bashkir poems: 10/9-syllable uzun-kyuy & 8/7-syllable kyska-kyuy dominate — and caesura behaves differently inside vs. outside these forms.

Abstract data-art illustration for a corpus study of Bashkir syllabic verse. Two parallel ribbons of thin horizontal bars represent lines of poetry, bar length proportional to syllable count. The upper ribbon alternates 10- and 9-syllable lines, labelled "uzun-kyuy" (the long melody); the lower alternates 8- and 7-syllable lines, labelled "kyska-kyuy" (the short melody). Longer bars are indigo, shorter amber. Some bars are split by a thin vertical tick after the fourth syllable, marking a caesura; others run unbroken. The unbroken 8-syllable bars encode the key finding: in kyska-kyuy, the 8-syllable line usually has no obligatory caesura after syllable 4, whereas in strictly isosyllabic poems such a caesura is required — the same nominal line length behaves metrically as two different things. Faint grey scatter-plot dots and a small monochrome heat-map grid fade into the cream background, evoking the corpus of 17,895 poems by 103 Bashkir poets. The scatter suggests no correlation between a poet's birth year and preference for isosyllabic form; the heat map shows that 7- and 8-syllable lines co-occur, while 7-syllable lines rarely appear alongside 9- or 10-syllable ones, indicating two largely separate rhythmic systems. Minimalist flat-vector style, square format, high contrast, generous negative space for small-screen legibility. Palette: indigo, amber, slate grey, cream. No human figures or photorealism.
