The walking tree: Ceja Pelon mesa, NW New Mexico

#blueskymonday #eastcoastkin #landscapephotography #pinetree #bareroots #newmexico #hiking #wilderness

A tall pine with bare branches at lower levels and healthy foliage at top stands proud against a blue sky streaked with fair weather clouds. Its root system is largely exposed above ground, giving it the appearance of being unrooted. The slope behind it reveals clusters of low shrubs and stunted trees.

A closer look at the exposed root system of the tree in the other picture. The ground around it appears to be mostly light-colored sand and loose rock.
