TOURETTE SYNDROME (TS) Genetically determined, life-long, neurological condition causing involuntary movements and sounds called tics Usually starts between ages of 4 to 7 and peaks in early teens Often misunderstood and associated with stereotypes, particularly regarding involuntary swearing and socially inappropriate behaviour Coprolalia (the clinical term for involuntary swearing) affects only 10% to 30% of people with TS - it's important to recognise that those who experience these symptoms often find managing their tics quite challenging Tourettes Action is a UK charity supporting people with Tourette syndrome. Providing essential support, guidance, community and hope especially when no one else will. We receive no government funding and rely on donations. Your support helps us reach those who need us most.
