It also answers the question people don’t always ask: whether you need a deep clean at all, or whether a steady rhythm would serve the house better. Sometimes that’s the honest answer.

We notice the things a house won’t tell you.
The film on the glass by the back door. The corner the vacuum never quite reaches. The towel that’s been hanging in the guest bath since summer.
Nobody points them out. That’s exactly why we look.
That’s what The Host’s Checklist is for: five rooms, what to do in each the week before, on one printable page. What to handle early, what to leave for Friday, and what guests actually notice.
The house ready, the door open, nobody stressed.

Give it a wipe top to bottom with a cloth dampened in warm water and a drop of dish soap, then dry it right away. Don’t skip the balusters, or the newel post at the bottom, where hands land first.
A small job, done now, and the whole house breathes easier.
The Host’s Checklist is up on the blog today. It’s what we’d tell a friend who asked how to get the house ready for a party without losing the whole day to it.
Print it, tape it inside a cabinet door, and cross things off as the days go.

This is the week the windows can stay open all day.
Take it. Before the house closes up for the season, a few afternoons of cross-breeze clear out air that’s been sealed in with the AC since June. Open one window on each side of the house and let it move through.
Carpet doesn’t show the season until the season is almost over.
The first cool Saturday of the season has a way of turning into company.
Somebody texts about the game. A neighbor mentions the fire pit. By four o’clock there are six people in the kitchen and a seventh on the way.

A house is ready when nobody in it has to think about the house.
That’s the standard we work to. Not a burst of polish for the first five minutes, but a home that simply works: the counters clear, the towels fresh, the rooms waiting for whoever walks in next.
Welcome to October.
That’s the whole idea for October: start ready, and stay that way.
That's the whole value. Do it once a year and the date stamp does the rest. #HomeownerTips #HomeMaintenance #AtlantaHomes #GeorgiaHomes
