De #Omeganevel, Messier 17, gefotografeerd met de #VST van ESO. Het enorme beeldveld van de VST legt de hele nevel vast, ook de zwakke buitenkant. De beelden zijn bewerkt met software uit Groningen.

Die drei Gürtelsterne sind gut zu erkennen, darunter der Orionnebel M42.
Noch ist der Himmel dunkel, aber der Tag kommt näher.

Kanten slierten stof in het Spookstelsel (#Messier74), door #JWST. Webb laat fijne slierten gas en stof zien, en kijkt vrij naar de sterrenhoop in de kern. Het telt zo’n 100 miljard sterren.

Enorme bellen van gas in #NGC604, door #JWST. Winden van jonge sterren blazen bellen in het gas; de oranje strepen zijn koolstofrijke moleculen. Zo’n gebied bestaat in onze Melkweg niet.

The night sky filled with many stars and two main objects. NGC 6939 is an open star cluster - a cloud of hundreds to thousands of stars showing prominently against the background. NGC 6946 is a spiral galaxy. We see it from right above and so the spiral structure shows perfectly.

Een van de helderste reflectienevels aan de hemel: #Messier78. Het stof weerkaatst het licht van sterren in de buurt, en ziet er daardoor blauw uit. Amateur Igor Chekalin won er een ESO-wedstrijd mee.

Zo zwaar als 800 miljard zonnen: het #Sombrerostelsel. De witte kern met dikke stofbanen maakt hem tot een van de mooiste stelsels aan de hemel. Met een kleine telescoop zie je hem makkelijk.

The cocoon nebula is a small structure in strong red on the background of the dark sky filled with many stars. It has small dark regions cutting across it. Around the nebula and downwards of it, there are regions with much fewer stars hinting at dust blocking the light.

Another part of the famous veil nebula in the constellation Cygnus. It is a large band of bright red and blue strands intertwining and flowing through the space. Not a compact and dense nebula, but rather like lots of fathoms winding through space or a veil, giving the nebula its name.
