ASCL was awesome before you could make your own DOI or publish astro software alone. That's not our world anymore! 🔭 #astrocode

As an example, this image shows citations to many unique record identifiers for photutils, an astropy coordinated package. The 2016 ASCL entry did not make the code more citable than it was at the time, and does not now either.
