FIGURINE
A trip to Oxford. Figurines at the Ashmolean: Seeing the Vinca ceramics in
Serbia in 2008 sparked my love of Balkan prehistory. The Roman cockerel, found in a grave, bears the names of 2 key archaeologists: Sir John Evans, preeminent c19th prehistorian; and his son Sir Arthur Evans, excavator of Knossos, spy during the Herzegovina uprising, and curator of the Ashmolean.

GRIMLEY
#archink
Along the Sever to Grimley. Through the wood pasture, thick with cattle & geese.
Old black poplars. Through Camp Lane Pits. A great white egret! First I've seen here
Two more egrets wheel overhead. And then I round the comer, looking up the slope toward Tinkers' Coppice. And the comflowers take my breath away. RH26

I’m doing #archink / #inktober a little differently this year. A little more slowly. Starting with making the materials. Here’s how I make my ink:

I never manage to contribute either, but I love seeing the work of others ✍️

Are there just 11 #archink prompts for #inktober this year? (ie to give people more time to engage organically through the month…) Or do you think more will be added?

I haven't seen this posted here, but thank you to Jona Schlegel (archaeoink on Instagram) for making this #archink #inktober list. Not sure I'll be able to contribute this year, but I always love to see more archaeology drawings.

Archink prompts: 1. figurine 2. midden 3. hand axe 4. flotation 5. ditch 6. leather 7. Indus/Harappan 8. dating 9. antler 10. pXRF 11. Lapita
