“OKAY,” ELISA MURMURED, “that still doesn’t tell me what vector stones do.”

“Aphamekia isn’t fully translated, but the bits that are seem treat foci stones like the ingredients to an alchemical recipe.” He grinned slightly. “And with alchemy, even the most powerful potions can have no apparent effect unless one knows what to look for, right?”

Elisa stiffened, herself no stranger to using such potions when her efforts were spent on Marlo’s concerns more than her own. How many times had ‘the apparent effect’ of a potion only been revealed after seeing clients she’d previously entertained pass her in the street without the faintest flicker of recognition (fond or otherwise)? “So you said. . . they have none of the properties of any other type of stones, but that doesn’t mean they do nothing.”
