Or she could just rule out having a separation referendum AT ALL! Goddamn Danielle Smith is by far the only and hopefully last premier to be this horridly incompetent. She better hold her tongue about still being premier because no one should ever vote for her!

I don’t know… I don’t trust investing/giving money to Danielle Smith for anything seeing how she wasted so much time and Alberta’s money for her separation campaign/referendum. Danielle Smith should never be trusted with any dollar even if it‘s out of “cooperation”

Smith won't say what it
will take for referendum
questions to pass
Premier declines to define what constitutes a mandate
for nine non-binding referendum questions, saying she
will assess the results after the Oct. 19 vote.

With Albertans voting October 19, Premier Danielle
Smith won't say what level of support would
constitute a mandate for nine of the referendum's
ten questions.
Instead, Smith says she'll assess the results
AFTER Albertans have voted.
I'm sorry. WHAT?
We're spending millions asking Albertans to vote,
but the government won't explain what constitutes
enough public support to act?
Will 50% plus one be enough?
What if only 30% of eligible voters participate?
What if a question receives 60% support, but
turnout is extremely low?
These are rather important questions.
And here's what makes this interesting
Smith has previously referenced 50% plus one
when discussing the separation-related question.
So why can't she explain whether that same
standard applies to the other nine?
Now, let's be clear.
The referendum is non-binding. The results don't
automatically change laws, and the government
isn't legally required to implement proposals
receiving majority support.
Some questions would also require Ottawa's
cooperation or constitutional amendments Alberta
cannot accomplish alone. But that's precisely why the government should
explain how it intends to interpret the results.
Because frankly, Smith's refusal raises another
question.
Does she intend to respect the results, or has she
already decided what she wants to do regardless
of how Albertans vote?
To be fair, governments can reasonably consider
turnout, the size of the majority and whether a
proposal is legally achievable.
But those considerations can be explained
BEFORE the vote.
Without clear criteria, Smith is leaving herself
considerable discretion to interpret the results,
however she wants, afterward.
And that should concern people on BOTH sides.
Albertans are spending millions on this
referendum. They deserve a straight answer.
You don't wait until AFTER the game to explain
how the scoring works. (l know a sports analogy: I
feel so masculine)
So, should Smith establish clear criteria BEFORE
October 19, or are you comfortable letting the
government decide what your vote means AFTER
it's counted?
