The Empty Swing
An abandoned swing hangs motionless while a shadow remains behind.

A weathered playground swing hangs at the center of an overgrown outdoor space, suspended from two long, rust-colored chains. Its narrow flexible seat curves downward and catches the warm sunlight. Beneath it, a bare dirt path stretches toward the foreground, scattered with dry brown leaves and bordered on both sides by dense, tangled vegetation. Dead stems, brittle weeds, bare branches, and fallen autumn foliage crowd the edges, giving the setting an abandoned, neglected appearance. Across the dirt in the foreground falls the sharply defined shadow of a small child. The figure has a rounded head, narrow shoulders, long arms, and slender legs, yet no actual child is visible anywhere in the scene. The shadow appears to face the empty swing directly. Behind the swing, the path continues toward a stained pale concrete wall partially obscured by brush and trees. Low golden sunlight enters from the upper right, illuminating the swing, leaves, and patches of ground while leaving much of the surrounding vegetation in muted shadow. The unexplained human silhouette transforms an otherwise quiet abandoned playground into an unsettling scene of absence and lingering presence.
