After the Last Sale
The stores are gone, but something still wanders the concourse.

A vast abandoned shopping mall stretches into darkness beneath a damaged glass atrium. Dirty daylight filters through broken and overgrown skylights, casting a muted green-brown glow across the ruined interior. Long vines and dead vegetation spill from the ceiling and upper level, creeping down walls, railings, and abandoned storefronts. Large faded red SALE banners still hang throughout the concourse, stained and curling as if left behind when the mall abruptly closed. At center, two escalators cross diagonally between floors. Their metal sides are corroded and filthy, while debris has accumulated around their bases. Closed shops line both sides of the tiled walkway, their signs dim, windows dark, and security gates pulled down. Large empty planters sit in the foreground beside cracked tiles, scattered leaves, dirt, and pools of standing water that reflect the decaying ceiling. A solitary hooded figure stands beneath the escalators near the middle of the concourse, facing forward with their face completely hidden in shadow. The small human silhouette emphasizes the enormous scale and unsettling emptiness of the dead shopping center.
