Day 5 of #31DaysofGraves is vehicle so I present the steam locomotive of train driver Harry Edwards. For Day 6 which is Weather, a rainbow of the the community garden at Arnos Vale. You can't see the graves as they are common interments, but they are there. (still behind but now catching up).

#31daysofgraves Day 10: Missing. I’ve found a lot of gravestones missing death dates, but none so obvious about it as this one in Mt. Bethel Cemetery, Pennsylvania.

Low rectangular reddish stone. The writing is done by cutting away the background of the polished surface. So “Edward Dennell Nov 1869-Aug 1927 I have done my duty” stands out in polished letters on a paler background. But below that “Emma his wife” was born in 1874… but the death date and epitaph are blank bars of stone, as if they’d been redacted.

This is a headstone with the most beautiful copperplate-style inscription, I love the colour it has taken on through weathering over time. It's at the Gala Aisle graveyard in the town of Galashiels, Scotland. Some graves there date back to the 1600s.

An old gravestone which has lost some of the inscription due to weathering. What remains is fragments of beautifully carved copperplate lettering and a surface patina dappled with pale lichens.

The stone for Peter Christophers (d. 1829) and his wife (d. 1791) is missing the start of the inscription, including the wife’s name.

Day 10: Missing/Vermisst

"Dem Auge fern. Dem Herzen ewig nah"

Hohes, trapezförmiges Grabmahl. Auf der oberen Kante ruht eine Bronzeskulptur. Der Kopf ist nach rechts geneigt und ruht auf dem angewinkelten linken Arm, der auf der Grabmalplatte liegt. Der Gesichtsausdruck ist melancholisch und von Kummer gezeichnet.
Im Hintergrund grüne Büsche und Bäume.

No headstones mark the burials in the Paupers’ Graveyard, Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, Ireland - but "This plaque commemorates the victims of the Great Famine 1845-1848 who are buried in this graveyard. Erected by the Donegal Association of New York 9th July 1995"
