If your Kukurizaru (くくり猿) gets dirty or too old you should replace it. And if you do not need it anymore you should return it to Yasaka Kōshin-dō (八坂庚申堂) - obviously a little difficult if you are outside Japan.
Kukurizaru (くくり猿) represent bound monkeys, tied at the feet and hands. Outside the home they act as protective talismans for those within, but at Yasaka Kōshin-dō (八坂庚申堂) they are also made as offerings to the blue guardian deity Shōmen Kongō (青面金剛). #くくり猿#Kyoto
When walking through the neighbourhoods that fan down from Kiyomizu-dera to Gion, you may notice some oddly shaped talismans hung outside homes and businesses.
Kukurizaru (くくり猿) are small balls of cloth, most commonly red in colour. #Kyoto#くくり猿
