Six slides about Highlight Text 2.4.0, a Quarto extension. Cover: "Name a style once. Use it everywhere.", with "everywhere" in white on red, above swatches labelled .alert, .boxed, and .alert .boxed. Slide two recalls what the extension does: it colours text, backgrounds, and borders with one syntax, such as [White on red]{fg="#ffffff" bg="#b22222"}, in HTML, LaTeX, Typst, Word, PowerPoint, Reveal.js, and Beamer. Slide three asks what happens when someone wants a darker red, over three lines that repeat the same colours on every span. Slide four defines two styles once in YAML: alert in white on red, boxed with a dashed blue border. Slide five applies them by class: [Overdue]{.alert}, then bg="black" where the element attribute wins, then .alert .boxed where styles merge in class order. Last slide: "The red lives in one place now.", the quarto add command, and links to the documentation, GitHub, and the release.
Six slides on reusing one Quarto configuration across many sites with a project type extension. Cover: "One Quarto configuration, reused by every site", with the line type: my-sites. Slide two: every new site starts as a copy of the last one, and a website needs navbar, footer, theme, edit and issue links, social cards, search, skip link and accessibility fixes, close to a hundred lines of YAML that drift apart. Slide three shows an extension file whose contributes key defines a project type on top of the website type, with a footer and navbar search. Slide four shows a site configuration with type: my-sites, a title, a URL and a navbar; everything else comes from the extension. Slide five, the example quarto-atelier: two documentation sites with the same layout in different colours. Slide six: one update reaches every site through a reviewed pull request, with links to the Quarto docs, the blog post and the example.
