Is there anything that makes you think something strange is going on in this chapter?
#writtingcommunity #sciencefiction

The interior of a huge greenhouse, similar to the Palm House at Kew Gardens. There are strange plants inside.

I'm trying something a bit different with the picture. For this I used Fux 2 Max in OpenArt. It's meant to be the interior of the Conservatory of Astrigis.

It was pretty much inevitable with the way the Paxian authorities were failing to stand up to the Nuharas.

What interesting things are in Laraget? Answer in the comments!
#writtingcommunity #sciencefiction

A city with lots of tall buildings. In cyan light.

This picture is from Night Cafe and is meant to be downtown Laraget. I'd have liked something a bit stranger and not looking like such a huge city.

How could the people in the bus be encouraged to get to know each other?

A small shrine with strange plants growing around it. Nearby are a small building and a car park.

The picture is from Bing Image Create and is meant to be the small Holy Site.

Who does Gandrin think the Gift-Filler's question refers to?

A large, square temple seen for above. with a large building at the center top. There are other building in the center and around the edges.

For the promotional picture I made a model in Blender based on a description in a famous book. Then I rendered it and edited it a bit in Gimp. This really leaves a lot to be desired. It's meant to be Kledris temple seen from above.

What does Blethdian claim Sixteen is?
#writtingcommunity #sciencefiction

A curvy, young woman with brown skin and blonde hair wearing a sari. Around her there's a cloud of pink vapour and people are pointing at her.

The picture is from Leonardo and is meant to be Miandri imagining being "harshed on". It did a creepy job of making Miandri look pretty much as I imagine her. I adjusted the levels and darkened Miandri's skin (because she's a faharni) in Gimp.

LU! My MC Lu is THE traumamuffin in Veil of Starlight 😭

I think the only person who comes close to the same amount of trauma as him is Stella (it's similar but subjective) with Sid coming in third. Stella is a *terrible* person and Sid gets second traumamuffin placement.⬇️

Try Your Best
#Poetry #WrittingCommunity

Try Your Best

“I don’t want to hurt you again” is a nice sentiment.
They’re hollow words, especially from her.
No one could ever promise that.
Somebody will go first.
Death is inevitable, just like hurt.

You should try me, maybe you’d be pleasantly surprised.
It’s all water off a duck’s ass, she once said.
I’m ten times more bullshit-resilient since then.
I put myself together with titanium kintsugi
from all the pieces I used to be.

The hurt little boy, the homeless teen,
the undiagnosed man, and all the rest of the
versions of me over the decades.
All unified now.

My answer to “I don’t want to ever hurt you again”
was “Try your best not to. It’s all anyone can ask.”
I would have done the same, but she only took four days
before she proved how hollow her words really were.

Profoundly Good

I’m profoundly good this morning.
The sun is in the sky, and the clouds look painted on.
I have no worries at all.
Which is supremely weird, as I’ve always been
a worrier and an overthinker.

It stinks when I pick up a load of horseshit,
on instinct, because I’d always lifted that burden before.
However, it was incredibly liberating as I immediately
dropped it like a hot rock when I realized what I’d done.

There is nothing left to think about in so many
situations in my life.
I’m moving along, even while sitting in place here.
I went down all the old roads I knew.
Those roads are still lacking what they always did.
So, I went off my map because I don’t know how you find
anything new and exciting without doing that.

I’m free and easy and headed back out into the world.
I don’t know what I’ll find but I won’t put preconceived
conditions on anything or anyone anymore.
I’ve visited so many places before, but I was mostly projecting onto them.
I hope I’m seeing them more clearly now.

I see myself differently now, and through that lens,
the world seems to have changed.
I’m sitting here loving on myself, and more importantly liking what I see.
I realized this morning that I’ve put down all my undue burdens.
I don’t even have anything to mistakenly pick up right now.
That has freed my mind.

In the still of the morning...
I’m profoundly good down to my bones
and through to my soul.
