#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 19 Tell us about some unwanted critique you've received.

I sent an article I'd written to someone who came on one of my meditation retreats. He was impressed, and asked an AI to do a comparison between my essay and a late Buddhist teaching I wasn't very familiar with. The […]

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct. 18 Talk about a time you had a revelation.

Muses are real, but you must never rely on them. Now on my third novel-length manuscript I have come to realise that while I may start with a plan, the muses have a better one.

While its obvious their world views would be different, even their pop culture references would be dramatically different. They haven't seen the same movies or TV, or listened to the same music, even before the Internet when things were generally more homogeneous.

Oct 18: "Talk about a time you had a revelation."

Little ones all the time. The current work in progress has characters from three generations, one each born int the 1920's, 1940's, and 1960's.

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct. 18 Talk about a time you had a revelation.

Every book I've written has involved revelations. Sometimes they're sudden, but often they emerge gradually. Sometimes the revelations have come through writing, and sometimes prior to it.

One of the most transformative […]

Writing about El and her father, and realizing years later what was going on.

#WritersCoffeeClub 18th Oct ~ Talk about a time you had a revelation.

I can't really say.
I suppose I've had moments of understanding that culminate in a fuller comprehension of... things. But nothing I would call a 'revelation'.

#WritersCoffeeClub 18/10: Talk about a time you had a revelation.
Writing Book 2 of the series, the moment when Jerya looks into a mirror and finally realises who her mother is; that was a revelation for me as well as for her.
I love it when things…

What are the defining traits of your niche in your genre?

I write real-world historical fiction. No dragons. No magic. Consistent with actual historical events, dates and distances. Stories which might actually have happened.

What are the defining traits of your niche in your genre?

Well, that depends on how you define my "niche". Is it "translations of German folk tales, with commentary"? Because that field is so small with so few participants that I might as well say "whatever I make up […]

What are the defining traits of your niche in your genre?

My “genre” is nonfiction: specifically Buddhist-related.

The writing has to be rooted in traditional Buddhist teachings, and yet also connect with modern psychology and neuroscience. It must be useful to the […]

What are the defining traits of your niche in your genre?
Niche kind of implies fitting in place, which I can't claim really. I write things you could tag as various genres, and I don't think there's a defining trait for the genres, let alone my off-centre place in them […]

#WritersCoffeeClub 17th Oct ~ What are the defining traits of your niche in your genre?

To my knowledge, I do not, and have not written in a genre with niche traits... Unless I have. In which case, I challenge you to tell me what they are.
