Blanc de Noirs by Sumarroca (2016) - 4 ⭐

Green apple, red apple, some chalk, some brioche but not much (mostly shows up if it’s not too cold). Pastry, like filo.

This 5 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Mount Veeder in Napa Valley is drinking beautifully already, although needs a few years to reach its peak. Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel. Rich and extracted, yet elegant. Fruit forward and engaging. Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years. Showing good potential to become a 95 point wine. Good by itself as a sipping wine, and will also pair nicely with a nice piece of steak. A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, 1% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. 15.1% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $90.

Tras la Yesca by Rodriguez y Sanzo (2023) - 3½ ⭐

Coffee, violets, black cherries, black currant, licorise. 12 months in new oak barrels, and it shows. 3.5, but proper subtle for a Toro, truth be told. I may re-evaluate it.

Balistreri Vineyards Petite Sirah 2018, Colorado Deep purple/ inky in color with a wide reddish rim. Strong nose of red fruits with wild flowers, tobacco, licorice, light earth, herbs, black pepper, spices and milk chocolates. Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with sweet raspberries, fresh cherries, pomegranates, light earth, tobacco leaf, spices, light herbs and peppercorn. Long tangy finish with fine grained tannins and cranberries. This 8 year old Petite Sirah from Colorado is drinking very nicely now. Complex and interesting, rich and fruit forward. I had this vintage 6 years ago and it is drinking better now. Would be interesting to revisit it in a few years, but unfortunately this is my last bottle. A very unique Petite Sirah that doesn't show like one from California at all. Tangy, spicy and engaging. The high alcohol is well integrated by now. Wine Enthusiasts 91 points. Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. Good by itself or with food. 15.2% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $48 (at release).

Chateau du Domaine de l'eglise Pomerol 2020. Deep ruby colour. Vibrant aromas of red fruit. Rounded tannins. Very long.

Barolo 2021. King of wines and ... Full bodied. Aroma of cherries, spice, hint of tobacco. Firm tannins. Excellent vintage.

De Chiripa by Valderiz (2023) - 3½ ⭐

Pepper, sandalwood, black currant, vanilla, some licorice. Chorizo after some air (and when it was sitting besides steak). Lots of licorice later....
